Robotic Prostatectomy Surgeon Qualifications
|
What qualifications are important in a surgeon who performs
Robotic Laparoscopic Prosatectomy?
Qualifications of the surgeon should include experience, excellent results,
and a desire to mend a personal relationship filled with compassion and
personal attention towards the patient. It takes a large number of Robotic
Prostatectomies before a surgeon would be considered highly
experienced and skilled in performing such operations. A highly qualified
surgeon must have done at least 150 Robotic Prostatectomies. He or
She must be willing to share his/her personal results. Furthermore, as a
physician, the surgeon must make a personal relationship with the
patient, and not view the patient as another opportunity to do surgery. A
patient with prostate cancer deserves respect, compassion, and personal
attention by his doctor.
The surgeon must strive to achieve three important goals with robotic
prostatectomy:
1. Excellent Oncologic results. The surgeon should strive to render his
patient curred of prostate cancer. He/she must therefore have high
negative margin rates and low positive margin rates. Dr. Ramin's
negative margin rates are as high as the best published results and
comparable to results of institutions that perform high volume of robotic
surgery.
2. Excellent reconstructive results. The surgeon must strive for the lowest
possible incontinence rates and highest possible potency rates. Dr.
Ramin works very hard to give his patients the best chance at fully
regaining their bladder control and best chance at regaining their sexual
function.
3. Low Complications rates. The surgeon must strive to achieve the
lowest possible rates of complications. Dr. Ramin has developed
numerous intra-operative techniques to reduce the chances of
complications.
Dr. Ramin's Results:
1000 Robotic Prostatectomies
Having performed and taught over 1000 robotic prostatectomies, Dr.
Ramin’s rates of complications are among the lowest of published and
reported series. His rates of continence, nerve sparing and potency are
among the highest. His oncologic results (negative/positive margins) are
among the best results.
